WICHITA FALLS, Texas – A pair of three-set defeats ended the opening weekend of the SWOSU volleyball season with a 2-2 record. The Lady Bulldogs fell to Midwestern State in the opener on Saturday before dropping a match with Emporia State.
Midwestern State 3, SWOSU 0 (28-30, 16-25, 19-25)

SWOSU appeared in control of the first set against the tournament host, taking a 19-13 lead late in the set before the Mustangs outscored SWOSU 10-3 to take a 23-22 lead.
Joey Collins helped SWOSU extend the set with three late kills, but Midwestern State eventually pulled away to claim the set 30-28.
Midwestern State controlled the second set, holding SWOSU to a hitting percentage of .043 and then putting the Lady Bulldogs away in the third with another strong hitting performance. MSU never hit less than .220 in a set while SWOSU's best hitting set was .154 in the third.
Collins put down a match-high 13 kills to lead SWOSU while
Alison Cole added 12. Both players hit above .320 for the match, but were the only hitters for SWOSU that hit above. 100. As a team, SWOSU and 35 kills and 21 errors in 134 total attempts for a .104 percentage.
Breann Whitaker had 31 assists and
Saasha Jacobson 18 digs to lead SWOSU. Cole had a team-high three assist blocks, but Midwestern State had an overall advantage of eight blocks to three for SWOSU.
Emporia State 3, SWOSU 0 (17-25, 23-25, 12-25)

After falling in the first set, the Lady Bulldogs had their best chance in the second. SWOSU hit .348 in the set and committed just three hitting errors but still fell 23-25 and went down two sets for the match. ESU then led the third set wire-to-wire to gain the match victory.
Cole again led the Bulldogs, putting down nine kills and committing nine errors, but she was held to just nine attempts in the match.
Carly Zak added five kills and Collins and
Shayne Haley each put down four for the Lady Bulldogs. As a team, SWOSU hit .184 while Emporia State was hitting at a .271 clip.
Fans can catch the volleyball team in action at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse this upcoming Tuesday when they host Oklahoma City in the home opener.
